FUTURE HOUSINg FOR SILVER GENERATION
According to statistics, by 2030, 20% of Singaporeans would be 65 years old and above. There is a drastic change in lifestyle after retirement. For those whom social life tie up with work, retirement can take it all away. 1in 3 Singaporeans eat out more often than eat at home. However, only 20% of Singaporeans prefer eating out than eating at home. It implies that giving the right circumstances, Singaporeans still preferred to eat at home.
My design intent is to help the elderly to adapt to a new lifestyle quickly and find a new purpose in life. My second design intent is to bring people together through cooking. Cooking is always more fun when we do it together with neighbours, according to an interview conducted.
The strategy is to “move kitchen out of the house” by integrating kitchen into communal space while at the same time provide privacy for the residents. The kitchen of every unit is facing the centre of the block. There are 2 entrances for each unit, the main entrance which is barrier free and a secondary entrance through kitchen.
